Contact
Email hello@nlongvity.com. We reply within 2 working days. In the app, Profile → Help → Contact FoodMate opens an email to this address. Please include:
- the email address your account uses (shown under Profile → Account → Email);
- your city in FoodMate, and the app version shown at the bottom of Profile;
- what you tapped, what you expected and what you saw. A screenshot helps.
Can’t sign in / reset password
- You can sign in with email and password, or with Apple or Google under “or continue with”. If you created your account with Apple or Google, use the same button again.
- Forgot your password? On the sign-in screen, type your email address, then tap Forgot password?. Open the link in the email on the iPhone where FoodMate is installed: it opens the app, where you choose a new password.
- Password-reset emails come from FoodMate <foodmate@nlongvity.com>. If one does not arrive, check your spam folder.
- New accounts work straight away; you don’t need to confirm your email address.
- If you used Apple’s Hide My Email, your account uses a private relay address. Profile → Account → Email shows it; mention it when you write to us.
- You must be 13 or older to create a FoodMate account.
Your city and location
- Battles and Hot Places are built around the city on your profile. FoodMate looks for restaurants around that city’s point on the map, and battle distances are measured from it, not from where you are standing.
- Change your city: on Home, tap the city line under the greeting, or in Profile tap Change next to “Battling in”. Search for your city and tap it. If it isn’t listed, type its name and tap the Use “…” row with the name you typed.
- Location permission: during setup, Use my location asks iOS for access while you use the app. FoodMate reads your position once, looks up the city name with Apple’s iOS geocoding and saves that point as your city. It does not use your location in the background, and changing city later works by search, without reading your location again.
- Prefer not to share your location? Tap Enter city manually during setup. You can turn location access off at any time in the iPhone Settings app, under FoodMate.
Battles and the free daily limit
- Tap the round amber battle button in the middle of the tab bar, choose Solo or Group, then tap Find my 8 or Create & share link. FoodMate finds 8 restaurants near your city; you pick one of two each round, and 7 picks later you have a winner. Directions opens Apple Maps.
- The free plan includes 3 solo battles a day. They come back at midnight, Norwegian time. The battle screen shows how many you have left today; when they are used up, its button reads Keep battling with Pro.
- On the free plan you can host 1 group battle a day. Joining a friend’s group battle is always free.
- Playing a creator’s bracket is free and never counts against your solo battles.
- No contenders match? Fewer than 8 places fit your filters. Widen the distance or turn off a filter such as Open now or No chains, then try again.
- Profile → Help → How FoodMate works shows the guide again.
FoodMate Pro
- FoodMate Pro is a monthly auto-renewing subscription bought through Apple. It adds unlimited solo battles and group hosting, the Open now, cuisine and diet filters, the whole Hot Places ranking, every Palate match and unlimited saved places.
- Free accounts keep the distance and No chains filters, the top 10 of Hot Places, the top 3 Palate matches and up to 10 saved places. Allergen warnings and joining friends’ battles are free for everyone.
- Open it from Profile → FoodMate Pro → Plan. The App Store price for your country is shown there before you buy. Payment is charged to your Apple ID, and the subscription renews each month unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Manage or cancel: tap Manage subscription on the same screen, or open iPhone Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. After you cancel, Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for.
- Pro missing after reinstalling or on a new iPhone? Open Profile → FoodMate Pro → Plan and tap Restore purchases, using the Apple ID you subscribed with. If the app says “Pro unlocks in a moment”, wait a minute and reopen Profile. If Pro still doesn’t show, email us the date of purchase.
- Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Allergen warnings are guidance
Set what you avoid in Profile → Your palate → Avoiding. FoodMate then warns you in battles and on restaurant pages in two ways:
- “Contains …” means the restaurant lists that allergen in its OpenStreetMap data.
- “Often …” means the place’s cuisine commonly uses it (for example, Thai places often use peanuts and fish).
The warnings are not checked with each restaurant, and a place without a warning is not necessarily safe for you. Always confirm allergens with the restaurant before you order. FoodMate is not a medical service; in an emergency, call 113 in Norway, or your local emergency number.
A place is wrong, closed or missing
Restaurant names, locations and opening hours come from OpenStreetMap (Data © OpenStreetMap contributors). If a place is wrong, closed or missing, email us its name and city. You can also correct it yourself at openstreetmap.org; the change reaches FoodMate when we next refresh our copy of the data.
Creators
- Creators publish brackets of 8 hand-picked places, each with a short note and an optional photo. You can play them from Discover → Creator picks or from a creator’s link.
- Apply: Profile → Creators → Become a creator. Pick a handle and the name players see, optionally add one line about your taste and your Instagram handle, then tap Apply as a creator.
- A person reviews every application, and Creator studio shows that yours is being reviewed. Once you are approved, tap New bracket, fill all 8 places and tap Publish and share.
- Photos come from your photo library. They are resized and saved as JPEG on your iPhone before upload, which removes location data from the file.
- Published brackets, your creator profile and your photos are public: every FoodMate user can see them, and anyone with a photo’s web address can open it. You see totals for plays, finishes, directions and saves, not who played.
- To remove a bracket, open it in Creator studio and tap Take it down. The link stops working and the bracket disappears from Discover.
- The rules for creators are in the Terms of Use.
Report a bracket or block a creator
- On the bracket’s page, tap Report or block, choose a reason (Not about food, Offensive or hateful, Spam or an ad, Wrong or closed place, Something else) and tap Send report. Reports are private: the creator does not see who reported them.
- A person reads every report within 24 hours and can remove the bracket and withdraw the creator’s approval.
- To block the creator, tap Block @handle in the same sheet and confirm. You won’t see their brackets again, and their links won’t open for you.
- There is no unblock button in the app yet. Email us if you want a block removed.
- To report a creator or anything else in FoodMate, email hello@nlongvity.com.
Delete your account
- Profile → Delete account, then confirm twice: Continue, then Delete account. Your account is deleted immediately. If you signed in with Apple, Apple may ask you to confirm once, and the app revokes FoodMate’s access at Apple.
- Deleting your account does not cancel FoodMate Pro. Cancel it with Apple first.
- Can’t use the app? Email hello@nlongvity.com from the address your account uses, and we delete the account within 30 days.
- What is deleted and what is kept: Delete your FoodMate account.
